Year 10
Year 10 at Fairfield brings greater depth, fresh challenges and the opportunity for pupils to pursue their interests through their chosen qualifications. Our ambitious curriculum combines a strong academic core with a varied range of optional subjects, helping pupils develop their strengths and shape their future ambitions.
All pupils study English Language, English Literature, mathematics, science and PSHE. English explores the transformation of Scrooge in A Christmas Carol, Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet and powerful poetry, alongside creative writing and public speaking. Mathematics strengthens reasoning and problem-solving, while science investigates disease and its prevention, chemical reactions, electricity and radioactivity. PSHE supports informed choices through learning about healthy relationships, personal safety and respect for others.
Beyond this shared curriculum, pupils follow their chosen options. Depending on their choices, they may investigate Elizabethan England, explore rainforests and changing cities, communicate in French or German, or debate ethical questions in religious studies. Opportunities also include developing business proposals, programming, exploring health and social care, and improving sporting performance. Art, textiles, design and technology, food, music, drama and dance offer further scope for creativity and practical achievement.
Across their subjects, pupils learn to apply knowledge with increasing confidence, evaluate ideas and work independently, building towards success in their qualifications and life beyond school. Explore the subject plans below to find out more.
