Year 8
Year 8 at Fairfield encourages pupils to think more deeply, explore new perspectives and put their growing knowledge into action. Building on Year 7, our broad and ambitious curriculum offers fresh challenges and exciting opportunities to discover individual strengths.
In English, pupils encounter the mysteries of Dracula, the ambition of Macbeth and the powerful ideas of Animal Farm. History explores struggles for equality through the civil rights and suffragette movements, while geography takes pupils from Manchester to Mumbai and investigates how rivers and coasts shape our world. Science uncovers the wonders of DNA, ecosystems and electricity, and mathematics develops increasingly sophisticated reasoning and problem-solving.
Creativity flourishes through abstract art, dramatic performances and music ranging from blues to electronic dance. Pupils develop Python programming skills, design smart products and extend their practical skills in food and textiles. Languages broaden cultural understanding, while PE develops technique, teamwork and confidence.
Religious studies and PSHE provide opportunities to explore belief, identity, relationships and equality. Throughout the year, purposeful reading, discussion and writing help pupils become more knowledgeable, independent and confident in expressing their ideas.
