At Fairfield we teach about SMSC and within this, fundamental British Values. This is through the curriculum, the enrichment programme and whole school Experience Days.
What is SMSC? | What are British Values? |
---|---|
Spiritual – explore beliefs; respect faiths, feelings and values; use imagination and creativity; reflect | Democracy – having a say in who rules our country (voting) |
Moral – recognise right and wrong; understand consequences; investigate moral and ethical issues | Rule of Law – following the laws of Britain |
Social – investigate social and moral issues; appreciate different views; participate; resolve conflict | Individual Liberty – freedom to do as you choose without breaking laws of the land |
Cultural – participate in cultural opportunities; understand, respect and celebrate diversity | Mutual respect and understanding of different faiths and beliefs |
Fairfield staff receive regular training on equality and diversity and we are proud of our diverse and inclusive community. These are the messages we share within our school community.
The Fairfield Faith Day is a long-standing Curriculum Experience day on the school calendar and helps support our pupils SMSC Education and understanding of British Values. Every year in July we invite leaders and speakers from different faiths to deliver sessions to our Year 9 pupils in which we celebrate the similarities and differences in our culture and beliefs. The photos below capture the essence of this important day in the Fairfield Curriculum.
