Welcome To Year 8

Welcome to the Year 8 landing page! I am Miss Howard, Head of Year 8.  

I have worked at Fairfield for four years, teaching Mathematics to all Year Groups in the school. I like to get out of my classroom and be involved in a range of activities across school – if there is a staff wheelbarrow race or volleyball competition to take part in, I will be the first to volunteer. I’ve taken part in the Duke of Edinburgh award every year. It is my hope that pupils are inspired to try new activities and clubs to enhance a well-balanced, varied, and enjoyable school life. 

My favourite thing about being Head of Year is getting to know so many pupils so well. I feel joyful when I know that my pupils feel happy, supported, and safe. I take pride in knowing that my pupils are effectively supported to overcome any barriers they face through their education. I believe that pupils’ successes should be recognised and celebrated. Pupils who prove themselves to be Successful Learners, Responsible Citizens, and Confident Individuals receive recognition and rewards throughout the year.  

Your Year 8 teachers are committed to ensuring that your school experience is engaging and exciting. You may be invited to attend trips including the Warner Bros tour with the English department; a trip to Padley Gorge with the Science department; a trip to Paris or Cologne with the Languages department. Additionally, the PE department will invite you to take part in the Interform Sports Competition, as well as our annual Sports Day.  

Teachers across the school will invite you to take part in lunchtime and after school clubs. This includes sports as well as more academic activities. There are groups to support with you with your homework, and some clubs that help pupils to meet and make friends, and enjoy mindfulness activities.
